Make a list of everyone you admire.
Everyone you’d like to emulate.
This list can include people you know, celebrities, historical figures and even fictional characters, so long as they’re written well.
I’m sure they’ll have many things in common. They’re all impressive in their way. They must at least share a spark that appeals to you.
Here’s another thing true to them:
They didn’t get to where they are on their own.
Whether you’re talking about era-defining leaders or excellent fathers, they had someone (or someones) show them how to be great.
They may have been a good example to them.
Or a mentor of some kind.
Whatever the case, they had help – an outside perspective. No one is smart enough to figure it out all on their own. It takes guidance to get anywhere meaningful.
And the more impressive your goal, the more intense your guidance needs to be.
But I doubt I’m telling you anything new here. “Coaching is good” – I’m hardly baiting controversy with that one.
So let me up the weirdness factor and say something not everyone will agree with.
There’s a technique you can learn that makes all your future coaching efforts more effective.
My coaching program seems impressive enough – four sessions and the bits in between will entrain some wildly useful resources for shattering your obstacles, clarifying your goals and empowering you to move towards them. So can many coaches – some of whom are excellent. So how do I stand out? Well, not many of them will teach you about Palaces of Power – and how you can use that to wring even more wisdom from your future mentors.
And your past ones. Yeah, it gets a bit wonky with time. With it, anyone you can imagine giving you advice can show up in your mind, ready to help you even more.
The more someone has helped you, the more easily they come to mind, too.
I talk about being able to get impressive results. I mean, four weeks is tight for a coaching program. Part of that comes from efficiency, being able to distil a lot of deep and meaningful into a short conversation.
But a lot of it comes from all the wisdom you’ve already absorbed but haven’t properly channelled.
The Palace of Power is ridiculous and powerful.
But you don’t have to tell anyone about it, meaning you get to keep all the weirdness in the privacy of your own head – even as you use it to inspire others and pay forward everything you’ve received from others.
There’s no high quite like helping someone – and I don’t mean by loaning them a pineapple. Become more capable and you’ll be able to help more folks more deeply.
That starts with getting help for yourself:
