Secular “WWJD?”

Theism and atheism are both life strategies. If I can sit on the fence on such a polarising issue for a moment, there are advantages to both.

Hmm?

Oh, I can’t sit on the fence? I have to choose a side in this supposed conflict?

I refuse. But here’s a real advantage Christians have over atheists:

The phrase “What Would Jesus Do?” has a ton of wisdom built into it. Like all phrases, it’s easy to parrot it without understanding. But anyone who reflects on it and actually considers the question has an enormous advantage.

On the surface level, Jesus Christ of Nazareth represents the very best of humanity. I know some folks like to question the details of the Bible, but that’s irrelevant – the stories about Him symbolise him as someone worthy of worship, devotion… and emulation. You don’t have to believe the stories to understand them.

Meditating on what He’d do will lead to some interesting answers.

But the benefits go deeper than that.

The question WWJD? trains a useful skill.

One that’s like caffeinated rocket fuel for creativity.

And it’s something I teach as part of the Psident System – and it works no matter who or what you believe in. It’s a secular technique that just so happens to resemble something from Christianity.

Some Christians might find they have an advantage here. Then again, they might not. Either way, this uses your mind in a fun and useful way.

And if the Christian angle bothers you? Well, pretend I said it’s similar to something I saw in Naruto, Spider-Man and Supernatural.

Either way, you’ll get a lot more out of life when you open yourself up to new ideas.
