Is your virtue being punished?

From sitcoms to HR departments, it sometimes feels everyone wants you to reign in your masculinity.

That can be good if you let it. After all, masculine energy thrives under a meaningful challenge.

Folks will tell you to suppress your masculinity for safety or inclusivity. That rings hollow when those same folks teach women to be more masculine – that is, confident, assertive, dominant and decisive.

Now, sure, harassment, discrimination, violence and old boys’ clubs are bad things. That’s why they’re already against every company’s policy, if not outright illegal.

Why not stop there? Why do they want men and women to be beige, sexless, interchangeable, passionless blobs?

There are a few theories. None of them is because it’s in your best interests.

I’m not telling you to buck your company’s culture. If your office expects you to be grey and grim, it’s up to you to decide how to go along with that. It’s also your responsibility to wear the consequences of your compliance or lack thereof.

Don’t mess around with your finances – not unless you can afford to.

But if you feel disconnected from your masculinity?

If you’d like a way to express it that isn’t passively watching sports with a beer in hand, grumbling at the prowess of strangers?

If you’re even sinful and rebellious enough to want to cultivate your masculinity – including your discipline, decisiveness, dominance and determination?

Well, you’re not going to hear this from your HR department…
