You want to be more creative. I don’t have to sell you on that.
But what, exactly, do you need? Not all creativity is equal, after all.
Consider:
Not all creativity is original. You might write a novel about a grizzled private eye whose investigations lead them into danger, corruption and seduction. Is that creative? Absolutely. But it’s not exactly original – and sometimes you need to think of a new idea.
Not all creativity has mass appeal. Maybe you’re an auteur, unconcerned with the tastes of the masses. There’s nothing wrong with that… unless you have bills to pay or a message to share with the world.
Not all creativity knows how to implement. It’s easy and fun to dream up new ideas, but then it can be a struggle to turn them into anything.
So what do you want more of? Originality, appeal or implementation?
In my 21st book – Every Creative Way – I analyse six styles of creativity, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Once you know your style, I give you simple and effective exercises that will change how you approach creative thinking.
Each exercise is tailored to your style, leaning into your strengths and using them to round out your creativity.
