It’s a pretty warped state of things.
Women are taught to suppress their femininity – that acting with deference and being nurturing are somehow terrible things. Instead, they’re supposed to be decisive and ambitious.
Men are taught to suppress their masculinity – that being decisive and ambitious is toxic, and you’re supposed to nurture and defer to others.
I’m sure this arrangement makes sense to someone.
This works, to a point. You can’t teach a horse to knit but you can teach a human to go against their instincts. In fact, that’s what civilisation is – harnessing your hunter-gatherer brain and channelling it into supporting infrastructure.
But you can only push nature so far.
Modern people still need outlets for those primal instincts. That’s why playing a team sport is so powerful.
And it’s why modern gender indoctrination is failing.
Men and women are more confused than ever. Marriage rates are plummeting – and it’s not as though folks are just choosing to live in sin instead. People are anxious, miserable, frustrated and lonely.
Is it really so surprising? It’s an inevitable consequence of denying a fundamental part of nature on a mass scale.
If you want a way out of your own misery and hopelessness, it starts with the basics. Men need to start being men – maybe not the way men used to be, back when things were so restrictive and conformist. But there are dozens of ways to be a man. Pick one!
You can be tough and strong like a warrior.
Gentle and protective like a father.
Powerful and transcendent like a sorcerer.
Wise and formidable like a king.
Charming and playful like a rogue.
Stoic and reserved like a monk.
I could go on. It doesn’t all have to be belts, beer and barbecues. Masculine virtue can be yours, even if you’re not a “typical” guy.
It can be so much richer, wiser and more enlightening than anyone has told you.
