I see this argument floating around a lot on social media.
I’ve even participated in some of it.
Is “cis” an insulting and degrading term, foisted on regular folks without consideration or consultation to change what’s normal?
Or is it a new word for an old concept, nothing to be concerned about?
I have my stance on it – one backed by history and psychology. On principle, you should probably, by default, resist any new thing the collective tries to force on you, including terminology. Not all change is progress and we’re seeing a lot of that lately.
But, really, who cares?
If it’s just a word, then it’s just a word. If it’s a slur, then it’s just a word.
Will it stop you doing what you need to do?
Will it get in the way of serving your fellow man and raising civilisation to new heights?
I don’t mean to downplay any of the Enemy’s tools. It pays to be vigilant and to resist its every advance – but not at the expense of putting the work in.
If “cis” is one of the Enemy’s tools, then don’t use it. Casually correct anyone who uses it. Move on, don’t get bogged down and don’t let it distract you.
I’ve always hated the phrase there are bigger things to worry about. People don’t sort their problems from biggest to least, then ignore everything from #2 onwards. Every problem needs a solution. But this isn’t an invitation for you to play the victim here. There’s no merit in complaining. That’s what the weak and ridiculous do. Action beats complaining every time.
Focus on building up civilisation – that’s the best and only way to defeat the Enemy.
And a great way to build up civilisation is to build up yourself.
If you’re easily triggered, distracted, unfocused, not pursuing worthy goals or being a burden, then focus on that first. Collaborate, contribute and support others as best as you can. That’s what civilisation is – everything else is just bricks and statues.
You can work on yourself on your lonesome. Many folks do.
But you know you’ll get better, faster results with the right guidance.
