You might have an obviously creative endeavour on your list of goals for 2024.
Classics include writing a novel and learning an instrument.
If so, good for you! Creativity is its own reward. That’s lucky, since those work better as hobbies than as jobs. The exceptional few who earn big money that way can inspire you to be like them, but only if you mean create well. Earning well is a different conundrum.
But if you have no interest in the written word, paintbrushes or guitar strings?
You still need creativity.
Creativity helps you get the job done. Your boss or customer comes to you with a problem – how will you solve it?
Creativity helps you expand your income. What part time jobs can you find or create? What new markets can you serve?
Creativity helps you make your lifestyle resilient to shocks. If the lockdowns return, what will you do? What if there are crippling cyber attacks? Or violence? Or a new technology wipes out your industry?
Creativity makes you a better father, husband, boyfriend, friend, brother, son, citizen and protector.
You have to practice it.
That’s not an order from me but an edict from reality. You have to consume water, you have to regulate your body temperature and you have to grow even more creative.
Failing on any front there jeopardises your survival.
That’s why I wrote Every Creative Way.
That and creativity is its own reward – I had fun putting that together.
And I enjoy helping you thrive.
However you’ll use it, creativity will help you.
