Only a bro knows

Only a bro knows what it’s like to lose children not through death but because their mother grew bored of you.

Only a bro knows what it’s like to comfort someone moaning about how they stubbed their toe, while your arm is torn to ribbons, leaking vital fluids and hanging from a thread. It never occurs to you to complain – what good would that do? Besides, you have things to do. The pain can wait.

Only a bro knows what it’s like to hear that you’re a weak, monstrous burden, while fatherless families implode across the West.

Only a bro knows what it’s like to believe lies about your nature and then be ridiculed when your mental health collapses. Women have been lied to about femininity just as much as men have been lied to about masculinity. But when the rotten foundations collapse for them, they get support. When it collapses for you, you’re left with nothing but aching thoughts and a home filled with weapons.

Because anything can be a weapon if used wrong.

Men, you’ve always had it tough. That’s not a problem – you like it that way.

But things are different now.

For one thing, there’s no appreciation for your efforts. You toil hard in construction sites or keep a cool head in the office – even so, you have hysterical losers shrieking “do we even need men???”

It wouldn’t take much – a kind word a month would keep you going. So if you’re starved for appreciating, it must be really bad.

For another thing, your sacrifices don’t amount to much. You’d find it easier to toil in the woods for 12 hours a day than pointlessly rearrange PowerPoint slides for six. When your work matters, you can work miracles.

When was the last time it did?

That’s why I’m looking forward to Lent.

If you give up something for the 40 days leading up to Easter, it means something. It’s an imitation of Christ. Your experiences will only bring you closer to God.

And you know He – a being of infinite gratitude – will appreciate it.

That’s why I’m running a call on Ash Wednesday for us men to hang out, enjoy some brotherhood and learn some useful skills for this time of year. And all the other times too. Specifically, you’ll learn:

  • how to use an overrated mental health “technique” (associated with decreased remorse and impulse control) to pop sinful desires,
  • why treating Lent as a business plan might be your best approach,
  • zoning out for fun and profit,
  • the neurological condition – which you can learn – that automatically brings your intentions and actions into better alignment,
  • why visualisations are for suckers and what to do instead.

If any of that sounds useful – or you just want to hang out for a while – then join at the link below.
