Education is not the filling of a vessel but the stoking of a fire.
Folks look at the sort of people coming out of universities and wonder what on earth is going on in there.
Graduates aren’t typically skilled in their craft. Instead, they carry these weird ideas about how the world works – and should work. They’re brainwashed into believing nonsense.
“This is normal,” say the apologists. “And a good thing! What you call brainwashing is just them being exposed to new cultures and new philosophies.”
That clearly isn’t true.
Consider:
University students might learn ideas from philosophers. Philosophers worth studying tend to be old – their ideas have stood the test of time and you can see the impact they’ve had on the history of thought.
Besides, there’s more of the past than there is of the present. It’s a rich field to mine.
And older philosophers are conservative by our standards. Practically by definition. Even the progressive ones might have been tolerant on, say, race, but not on gender dynamics.
Students might learn from international students. I remember soaking up snippets of Middle Eastern and South East Asian culture in my university days.
Most countries – by Western standards – are conservative.
So if universities teach students through timeless ideas and exposure to new cultures, you’d expect to see a) a lot of variety, and b) a lot of conservative thinking.
Instead, students spout the same woke ideology held only by Hollywood, HR executives and – funnily enough – academics.
Therefore it’s brainwashing, not education.
I guess they cut remedial logic from uni programs. Otherwise, that would be obvious to them.
But complaining about it won’t help.
All you can do is sharpen your own thinking, save yourself and then lead others out of the darkness.
Here’s your next step:
