When something gets popular, it might tell you something, it might not.
When something gets unreasonably popular, pay attention.
Viral memes are the cutting edge of social psychology, tapping into some unexpressed part of our minds. It might be a neat way of expressing an idea (“clean ALL the things!”) or it might encapsulate some ongoing issue (“I choose the bear!”).
So given how simple and viral hawk tuah is, it must say something.
If you’re not across the meme landscape, hawk tuah is from one of those street interviews TikTokers love so much. The guy asks what move in the bedroom drives men crazy and this radiant angel of a woman came back with:
“You gotta give him that hawk tuah and spit on that thang! You get me?”
It’s Beautiful. I’m not being ironic – it’s genuinely Beautiful. The transcript doesn’t do it justice – her delivery is sublime.
Something this simple – and, let’s be real, stupid – going so viral tells us this speaks to the zeitgeist in a few ways.
One is she’s the sort of woman most men want. She’s gorgeous in a girl-next-door way, she’s freaky and, above all, she’s fun. She’s bubbly and sweet in a way you don’t see much of anymore. Watch the video and she’s clearly enjoying herself to a man’s benefit.
Let’s be real. A modern woman having fun usually means that the men who care for her are cringing inside. It usually means she’s doing something stupid (“I choose the bear!”) or something predatory (“buy me a drink, then I’ll decide whether I want to talk to you or not”).
Not hawk tuah girl – her fun is fun for the guy too.
Now, sure, I’m not a fan of casual sex so I have some issues with the content of what she said. Luckily I’m not a woke fool, so I can appreciate some aspects of something without endorsing everything about it.
The way she said it matters.
I’d tell women to be more like this – not (necessarily) to go spitting on that thang, but adopt her attitude – but women have no Game and are largely unwilling to learn. A tweet from a woman sums it up nicely:
“What I’m learning from hawk tuah girl is that men want a loyal freak.”
If you’re only figuring that out now, there’s little hope for you.
So, as always, my advice goes to the men.
Find a girl capable of enjoying herself like this, then reward her with attention and affection whenever she does.
