A psychology lesson from Uber

No idea if this is True or not:

But I heard that in the early days of Uber – and I mean the real early days – if you signed up as a driver with them, an employee would come round, have a chat and inspect your vehicle.

Now?

Well, now you’re the one who has to jump through the hoops.

This is plausible. Early on, they were needy for drivers. They needed to make sure you and your car were above board. A few bad impressions early on could have not just wiped out Uber but the entire rideshare business model.

Now, drivers need Uber more than Uber needs drivers.

The lesson?

It’s better when you’re not needy.

When you’re desperate, you have to lower your standards and go to extra effort.

It’s not great.

There are plenty of ways to avoid having to do that.

To overcome your needs and limitations.

They all involve preparation of some sort – study, training, that type of thing.

And this?

This, right here, is one of the highest leverage things you can learn.

It’s quick and simple, yet it applies to just about every worthwhile aspect of life.
