MGTOW – or Men Go Their Own Way – is a social movement telling men to reject relationships, reject hookup culture and prioritise their own growth.
It’s a great message. When men put their health, happiness and success first, they thrive and – ironically – become irresistible to women.
But sometimes MGTOW misses the point.
It drifts from telling kings and lions to crush it, to complaining about women and how men are the real victims these days.
Some examples:
I saw a clip recently of a woman saying what men should do to be more successful with the ladies. Unlike most clips like this, it was actually good advice. Every tip boiled down to be more virtuously masculine.
One of the specific tips was to take risks. Women love a risk-taker, especially when they succeed.
A MGTOWer reacted poorly to this, calling her delusional. He said that she’s wrong – that men should take risks because it makes them more successful, not to do it to please a woman.
They both agreed that men should take risks to be more successful. They both agreed that it makes a man more desirable. But she was wrong and he was right because…
Well, who knows?
Another example:
A young woman encouraging men online to be more traditionally masculine.
Paraphrasing one of the top comments, which is on brand for MGTOW:
“The problem is that you’re not a traditional woman. You want a traditional man but none of the obligations that go along with it as a woman.”
Now, sure, that’s true in many cases. Plenty of women who call for traditional men and chivalry aren’t living up to their end.
But this particular woman was a tradwife with dozens of videos denouncing modern feminism.
A third example:
There was an anonymous tweet where a woman got revenge on her boyfriend for cheating on her, by sleeping around with his friends. She then had to deal with the consequences of that action.
A reaction, dripping with MGTOW energy, said she was lying about her boyfriend cheating and was just looking for an excuse to get around.
Imagine thinking you’re an expert in a stranger’s relationship history based off virtually nothing.
Now, I’m not condemning the MGTOW movement here. It’s a better philosophy than the push to be a vain, egotistical dude who treats sex casually and women as objects. It’s definitely better than the lie that men aren’t allowed to be masculine – that only women can be strong, independent and ambitious.
As a man, MGTOW could save your life. I know it helped me a lot.
But it’s not above criticism.
And these three examples show a real weakness in the MGTOW psychology – an occasional slip into hypocrisy where, for a moment, these men telling you to be kings argue like immature women.
Femininity involves embracing your emotions as true. When healthy, this means honouring your experiences and valuing them as real sources of wisdom. When immature, it means blindly following your emotions, assumptions and mental wounds instead of logic or evidence.
Symptoms of immature feminine thinking include thoughts like:
“You’re correct, but you’re wrong about how you’re being correct!”
(Like the first example.)
“I don’t know anything about this situation, but let me project like mad and treat my hallucinations as evidence!”
(Like the second and third examples.)
This isn’t me saying MGTOW isn’t worth it. It has its place. But the entire point of it is to elevate men above pettiness, reactivity, unhealthy femininity and sloppy thinking. The movement is for turning boys into lions, but they won’t get there by blaming women and throwing their emotional damage out there like this.
As for treating your emotions as true?
That’s one of the signs of a Failure of Sentience.
One out of dozens.
With this example, you can see how a Failure of Sentience – a failure to see the other person as another person, rather than something you can project your manure onto – throttles you.
The other examples aren’t any wiser to follow.
That’s why I recommend folks read, reread and apply Your Story Isn’t About You. Do that and you’ll spot these patterns in your own thinking.
Changing them only makes you stronger.
So get to changing them:
