The ultimate turnoff for women

Imagine two scenes for me. The first:

A woman comes up to you, says you’re the most handsome man she’s ever seen. She gets on her knees and begs you to go out with her, looking up at you with watery puppy eyes.

Let’s say you know this isn’t a prank, a trick, a scam or the result of some quirky mental illness. She’s genuine.

Do you like this?

Some guys would. Many guys – me included – would see this as a huge red flag, so I wouldn’t date her. It would give me a smile, though.

Second scenario:

Same thing, but reverse the genders. You, as a man, get on your knees and beg a woman to date you.

The best you can hope for there is she storms off in disgust. You could end up with a broken nose, pepper spray to the eyes or your very own viral video.

Desperation – it’s the ultimate turnoff in business, dating and theology. Which is hardly fair if you think about it. If you’re desperate, that just means you really need it. So why is it the ones who want something the most are the least likely to get it?

Well, because the universe doesn’t run on, with or towards fairness, for one.

Now, I could point out how it’s a reasonable heuristic – how anyone without a girlfriend or any business without customers might be like that for a reason.

But, really, does it matter why?

All you need to know is desperation gets between you and what you’re desperate for.

Well, there’s one other thing you need to know:

What to do about it.

Step 2: read the chapter in No Hopeless Men on desperation.

Step 3: do the releasing exercise every day until you’re sorted.

As for Step 1?
