“Christianity just stole all its ideas from paganism!”
Utterly untrue. The core idea of Christianity – that God took on human form to die for our sins – is uniquely Christian.
When folks say this, they point to Horus coming back from the dead. Cool. Many cultures compare death to sleep – the idea of waking up isn’t so special it needed swiping.
Or they point to Christian celebrations being rebranded pagan rites.
That’s less true than what most folks realise. The Christmas tree, for example, represents St Boniface being a huge chad.
But whatever, let’s say Christmas is just a rebranded pagan festival. That’s fine. Admitting that doesn’t contradict anything in the Holy Bible.
And admitting that is a nice argument against the claim that Christianity spread by the sword.
Not that you need any more arguments against that. Christianity was illegal for the first few centuries. Then it converted Europe’s warrior cultures, including the Celts and the Norse. In modern times, it survived Soviet attempts to keep it down – and the Soviets had much more firepower than the churches ever had.
Christianity took some superficial and irrelevant details from pagan celebrations. It did this out of kindness and mercy. Even with the power of the sword on its side, it chose to make assimilation easier.
If Christianity is just brutal, militant colonialism, it would have erased all traces of these ceremonies. Instead, it stripped them of the spiritual elements but kept the trappings.
Nice.
Wokeism tries to do the same thing. It takes things like institutions and culture, hollows them out and replaces the meaningful stuff with their perverted take on things.
But it fails. Woke institutions crumble, woke media gets ignored.
That’s because Christianity values Truth, Goodness and Beauty. Replacing lies with Truth, evil with Goodness and ugliness with Beauty isn’t always easy, but the results last. Try to go the other way and people naturally resist.
This is how Christianity wins. This is a Christian victory – a return to basic virtues.
Modern culture warriors need to remember that.
If Christianity becomes merely a faction in the culture wars – or, worse, a pawn for conservatives – then it’ll fail.
What we need to do is stick to our virtues, be morally superior to our enemies and follow the teachings of Jesus.
Nothing else matters.
Of course, this is easy to say. It takes real mental strength to do this, though.
Maybe you think you can go it alone.
If you’re not that foolish, then I direct your attention here.
This, right here, will level up your mental strength in ways I can’t even say.
You don’t have to trust me on that. All you have to do is see for yourself:
