If you want to manipulate a person or a society, you have options.

There’s the ol’ politician’s classic: lie hard enough, often enough and emphatically enough that folks start believing it.

There’s gaslighting, of course.

And you can always make it so the thing you want them to do is the least painful path. The higher the pain, the more they’ll insist that “their” idea is the best.

These are all black hat techniques – they might work, but it comes at a price.

If you have to use these – or anything else from the dark side of influence – then you have to wonder if you should. If your idea is beautiful, good or true, then it shouldn’t need anything like this.

You can use these techniques to help someone better themselves.

There are other ways to do that, though. Ways that work with people, not against them. Ways that aren’t filled with temptations to do wicked things.

Take charisma, for example.

It’s just as easy to use it for good or for ill. With enough of it, you could found a cult or lead society out of a dark corner into the light.

There are few things more influential than genuine charm. Not sleazy charm, not calculated charm, but the genuine stuff.

That’s why even a little bit of it can change your life.

And you can get more than just a little bit of it by studying Flavours of Charisma.

Yeah, you’ll need to shell out money for it.

Then you actually have to read it.

Then you actually have to apply the lessons.

But if it were any simpler, it wouldn’t be any fun.

A bad personality assessment system has only a handful of categories. There are few useful ways to break the world’s population up into a dozen or so buckets.

Few doesn’t mean none. Masculine and feminine is a handy one with only two options.

But that’s an exception.

A useless system would break people into eight billion categories. At that point, they’re not categories – they’re names.

So how about this for a middle ground:

There are 336 ways you can be charming.

Well, there’s more, but it’s not bad as an approximation.

Here’s how I got there:

There are eight categories covered in Flavours of Charisma.

Everyone has around three of them. They’re different and they work together in different ways.

Some folks have more, some have fewer, but three is a reasonable guess.

That gives you 336 different combinations (8 x 7 x 6 = 336).

That’s plenty of ways you can uniquely express yourself.

And you can up that number nice and exponentially by adding new flavours to your arsenal.

Each new flavour makes you even more special.

That’s nothing to sneeze at.

But at the same time, that doesn’t mean anything. Having a super special signature sauce doesn’t matter on its own merits. What counts is what that does for you.

Luckily for my long-suffering keyboard, I don’t need to list the benefits of more, greater, flexible charisma. You already know them.

All that’s left to learn is what that means for you:

Let’s say you want to get fit and you’ve never done it before.

A strategy – one of many – is to lean into your strengths. Find something you enjoy doing enough to do, then you do it.

Maybe you like running, or dancing, or team sports, or a set gym routine.

Use this to learn to enjoy yourself while building up your strength – then pivot into related training.

If you like running, you can probably tolerate squats. Then you can try front squats – and just like that, you’re building forearm strength.

You can apply this to learning languages. Maybe you enjoy or have a knack for vocabulary. Start there, then build up your grammar.

Or learning an instrument. You might find running foundational exercises – like scales – to be fun. Or maybe you prefer to learn songs you like.

Start with what you know, then build out from there.

It’s the same with charisma. Why wouldn’t it be? It’s a skill like any other, with technical elements and artistry all being so essential.

And no matter how awkward you are – even if you’re stereotypically autistic – there’s something charming about you. Something you’re good at.  Something you already do well and would find easy to learn more of.

Or, if not easy, then at least fun.

That’s why I structured Flavours of Charisma the way I did.

Charisma isn’t straightforward to learn. Some folks would tell you that you can’t learn it – that it’s something innate. I assume folks like that emerged from the womb with all their jokes, charm and ability to read people fully fledged then.

For the rest of us, we learned it.

And we can keep on learning it.

How?

Well, you could try doing a quick search. You’ll find thousands of blogs out there with truly impressive advice like… make eye contact (but not too much) and ask questions (but not too many).

Maybe that’s enough for you.

Or maybe you want to revolutionise the way you think about being charming.

If the latter is you, you’ll want Flavours of Charisma:

With Christmas looming, I know a bunch of you are already feeling anxious.

Family can be complicated. The judgemental remarks, the grating politics, the drinks flowing, the tension, the disappointment, the stress and exhaustion so many folks feel this time of year…

Drama-filled holidays – they’re a cliché for a reason.

But you don’t have to contribute to any of that misery. You can waft above it – and maybe even inspire others to do the same.

Can you imagine that? A peaceful holiday season? A silent night, a holy night?

I can’t make any promises, of course. A lot rides on you and yours doing what’s right. You can only control your own reactions, after all.

Still, you can boost the odds.

The best way to defuse an awkward, antagonistic or delusional family member?

Respect and understanding.

Those two things go a long way when dealing with people – and are in short supply these days. It’s amazing how friendly folks get with a little respect and understanding.

And a lot of that can come from learning how your style and their style clash. They might think they’re being charming, when it drives you mental instead.

With a bit over a week til Christmas, that’s not long enough to master everything in Flavours of Charisma. I usually recommend eight weeks for that.

But it’s enough to give you a grasp of the basics.

It’s enough to see where others are coming from – and which of your rough edges you might need to smooth out.

But you’d still want to get your hands on this quickly, though.

The sooner you start learning, the better your chances of a peaceful Christmas are.

There’s nothing like being the life of the party.

Until people find you grating and obnoxious.

And no one takes you seriously.

Remember – every strength can be a weakness and every weakness can be a strength. Being free, spontaneous and exciting can be charming and delightful. It can light up smiles and quicken heartbeats every time you enter a room.

Or folks can see you as immature, cringeworthy and tedious.

The morale isn’t to practice being fun like this.

It isn’t to avoid these traits.

And it certainly isn’t to be yourself – the most ridiculous advice you could ever give someone. You know those shows and movies where the bad guys capture a scientist, who then has to pretend to build their weapons while actually not being helpful? If someone kidnapped me and I had to fake being helpful, I’d tell them to be themselves.

No, the answer is obvious.

It’s the same virtue as with so many other contexts:

Flexibility.

Knowing how and when to be fun – and when to cool your jets – wins every time.

That’s why I love Flavours of Charisma. It teaches you how to be more popular, charming and likeable – which are all learned skills.

It also teaches you when you should – and shouldn’t – embrace each style.

The Life of the Party is just one flavour – one of eight.

Mastering it and just a couple of others will change everything for you.

And those changes start here:

Comparison is the thief of joy, so they say.

Fair enough.

But let’s put quality and achievements to the side for the moment.

How many words do you write in a typical week?

Be realistic. If you write 2000 words on a good day, how many of those do you have? One a week? Seven? It makes a difference.

With that number in mind, consider this:

The Fellowship of the Ring is an epic tome. You or I might never write something that good, but it’d be awesome to write something that long.

It’s about 180,000 words long.

How long would it take you to write something like that?

Ten thousand words a week is easily achievable. You can do that even if you’re a slow typist (like me) and have distractions, duties and a life outside writing.

And at that pace, it’d take you 18 weeks.

That’s less than six months to write an epic.

Now, it took Tolkien a lot longer to write it. That’s because he had a lot of thinking and planning he needed to do. Fair enough.

But I bet you have something you want to write, where you already know what you’ll cover.

Or if you don’t have a plan yet, you could easily come up with one.

With the right framework for a novel, website or book, you could finish it incredibly quickly.

That assumes you read and apply I Wrote This On A Monday. This book will teach you how to write like this and feel invigorated from the process.

Prolific writing can be easier than you realise.

It all starts here:

I’ve penned a couple of thousand words about Flavours of Charisma.

How it takes your charismatic style and builds on it.

(Assuming you practice well, study the material and apply it.)

Well, time is disappearing like an open pack of Tim Tams.  If you want a flexible, forgiving and effective framework for charisma, get started sooner, not later. It’ll take time to master this content, which means you’re missing opportunities from now until you do.

So get started and seize a new take on deep charisma.

Everyone loves a free spirit, right?

Want to make friends, all it takes is saying yes, and to everything that comes your way.

Sounds foolproof! It’s not like Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel could star in a movie outlining how it could go wrong…

Hanging around with a free spirit can be fun. It can also be annoying, tedious, exhausting and embarrassing.

Someone like that might be great to hang around with. Are they the type of person you’d marry, promote or entrust with your money?

Spontaneity is great until it damages your reputation or liver.

But the answer isn’t to turn your back on fun.

It’s to do what I describe in Flavours of Charisma – my guide to the multifaceted nature of human-to-human relating. Charisma isn’t always just the suave guy in a suit delivering smooth-as-oil pickup lines at a bar.

If you think about the popular, respected and influential people you know, you’ll see they’re popular in different ways.

Flavours of Charisma shows you how you’re already potentially popular, how to build on that and how to round out the flaws in your style.

After all, plenty of folks find the guy in the suit cheesy.

The best style of charisma changes to fit the person in front of you. What could be more influential than someone who sees who you are and responds appropriately?

If only it were this simple:

Learn to open your heart, learn to see the virtue in suffering in others and all will be well with you. Let love and compassion guide your every thought, and the universe will reward you.

Alas, it ain’t so.

You know this – it’s one of the reasons why hippies haven’t risen to the top of every industry.

(That and most hippies don’t experience universal love and compassion. They talk a lot about it, but will turn their nose up at oil executives. Are they not people too? Hmm?)

Don’t mistake me here – a little bit of universal compassion will do wonders for your charisma.

You can’t rely on it, though. So many folks just don’t like people like that.

That’s why the Compassionate Soul is just one flavour out of the eight in the charisma buffet.

I talk about this – and what to do about it – in Flavours of Charisma – my guide to the multifaceted nature of human-to-human relating. Charisma isn’t always just the suave guy in a suit delivering smooth-as-oil pickup lines at a bar.

I make no guarantees.

Nor would you believe me if I did.

Anything can happen between you buying Flavours of Charisma and eight weeks from now. Even if you put the work in, your industry might implode or you might decide to live as a forest-bound hermit.

But…

Here are some things that can happen from you reading this ol’ guide of mine:

You have more fun. Some of the charisma flavours are enjoyable in their own right. They can also all lead to new opportunities for you, which could mean invitations to hang out, job openings or exciting adventures.

It’s not implausible. The world runs on relationships, so getting better at charisma can improve everything. Many a career has been made off the back of someone’s people skills. Get better at that and you’ll probably get more of what you want – whatever that is.

Like I say, there are no guarantees to be found here.

(Not even money-back guarantees, as per my sales letter.)

But this stacks the odds better than just about anything you could be doing in those eight weeks.

Besides, how many of those other things get you to daydream about your favourite fictional characters? Because that’s something Flavours of Charisma includes. It’s my guide to the multifaceted nature of human-to-human relating. Charisma isn’t always just the suave guy in a suit delivering smooth-as-oil pickup lines at a bar.
